Renewing your qualified signature card


If your certificate is due to expire in the coming weeks, then you can apply for a follow-up card. (This is, unfortunately, not possible if your name is no longer the same as on the previous certificate application, for example, if you have married. In this case, a new application is required.)
You do not have to identify yourself, i.e. all you need to do is fill in the application and send a signed copy of your ID card and any attachments that may be required to D-TRUST.

The application process
Documents required in order to renew your qualified signature card:
  • A copy of your ID document (back and front) signed by you
  • A correctly completed follow-up card application (see Tips for completing forms)

Have the details of your company or company affiliation changed? If you wish to continue using your signature card for professional purposes, all you need to do is to enclose the following documents:

Your documents
German law requires that you are informed about the use of the electronic signature. You can find important information here on how to use the card and on the legal implications of a qualified signature. On receipt of the card, you confirm that you have read this information:

Receipt of the card
The card will be sent to you within a few days (normally by registered letter). Three workdays later you will receive the pertinent PIN which you require in order to use your card.

It is necessary that D-TRUST receive confirmation that you have received both the card and PIN letter. Please return the form enclosed in your PIN letter to us. Your signature card will not be activated until we receive this form. This means that from this time on you can then use your card for signing in a legally effective manner.
